  • Lots of vultures - was an even mix of these with the Turkey Vultures I'm familiar with from home in Washington.

  • Does an alligator poop in the woods?  Here is your answer.
  • Mommy alligator in her den - not many cool damp places left for them at the moment.
  • This grasshopper is called a "Lubber".
  • A cypress "knee".  The tree's root system needs these for respiration when the soil is covered by water for long periods.
  • An orchid - some people are poaching rare orchids from the national park.  We saw the scar on a tree where scumbags took one of the very few remaining plants of a particularly rare species.

  • This area would normally be submerged under a couple of feet of water - you can see the water line on the tree trunks.  It's a rough year in the Everglades - local flora and fauna are struggling to survive until the rain comes.
